Josef Muller-Brockmann

In order to do my design, I sketched out a close up of one of his designs and then went over it in charcoal in an attempt to show the play of light and shadow in the second. I then scanned this image into the computer. I cleaned up the lines using a vector mask, and then cut the drawing into its individual parts. I overlayed a green color in order to add some color to the image, and used the green as a shadow for the black. I then took the entire image into Illustrator and added text. I put some of the text on an angle in an attempt to show another of his designs. I like how the text was overlayed in one of his images, but my image is too dark to use this portion of his design. I then added the black rectangles used in alot of his designs over top of my finished design.

Visual Onomatopoeia

Used this assignment also as a chance to use live trace. Originally I took a picture of a crushed and battered car and used live trace. I then took the text and adjusted it to match the outline of the car. I changed the text to outlines and then used it as a clipping mask over the car. Finally, I took a photo of a car crusher, used live trace, and placed it above and below the text.

Elven Script

A poster we had to do to advertise a chosen font. My font is called Elvish Ring NFI and is made by Norfok Incredible Font Design. It is based on one of the fonts used in the Lord of The Rings. I wanted to keep the design simple, but also base it on the One Ring used in the book. I took the main passage about the ring and used it here. One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them.
